Be a Vegetarian or Just Eat Like One

There are lots of reasons to go vegetarian for a meal or forever. 7.3 million Americans consider themselves vegetarian and 22.8 million follow a “vegetarian-inclined diet.”  People do it for their overall health, for their love of animals, for weight loss, and for a whole menu of other reasons.  So what do vegetarians do for nutritional supplements?

Vegetarians need to read labels carefully and learn to recognize deceptive ingredients. For instance, there are some sneaky animal products included in most commercial vitamins and minerals like gelatin which is made from the tendons, ligaments, and tissues of mammals.  Unless it specifically states vegetable gelatin, it’s not vegetarian. Vitamins A, B, D are often from animal sources. Glycerin is usually produced with some kind of animal fat. So, always read the label, research the manufacturer and if you don’t know what an ingredient is, look it up!
